Goldsboro boys win by 42, girls fall at East Duplin
2 min readThe Goldsboro boys left no doubt in their road tilt against East Duplin.
Outscoring the Panthers 44-16 in the second half, the Cougars won 88-42 on Tuesday in Beulaville. With this win, Jamaal Croom’s team improves to 11-2 and 4-0 in East Central conference play.
“I just told them to pick up their intensity on defense,” head coach Jamaal Croom said. “We did a good job of that to close the first half and start the second half. It was good to force a lot of turnovers and get out in transition like we did tonight.”
Takorrie Faison had 23 points to lead the Cougars while Xavion Atkinson added 19 and Christian Bullock scored 18.
Meanwhile, the girls basketball team struggled to score in their 46-29 loss to the top team in the girls conference standings. The Cougars fall to 3-8 and 1-3. They were within six late in the third quarter, but didn’t score for a nine minute stretch of the second half.
“We stopped running our offense the right way,” head coach Latina Thomas said. “I think we started the game well with our hustle, rebounding, and attacking the basket. What we have to do better is stick to our game plan throughout the game.”
Mary Archibald led the way once again for Goldsboro scoring 12 points.
Both teams are back in conference action Friday at home against Clinton.
