As part of the WJG Sports All-Area Football Team, we present to you the ten best games Wesaw all year long.

  1. Rosewood at Princeton — Rosewood clinched its first conference title in 20 years, its first 10-win season since 1991 and ended its seven-game losing streak against Princeton, 42-35 in overtime. The Eagles led by 21, before Princeton stormed back and sent the game to OT where Dhimany Fenty scored the game winner and Connor Wise made the walk-off tackle on fourth and goal.
  2. Goldsboro at Eastern Wayne — The Wayne County Classic came down to a hail mary from sophomore quarterback Deontay Hooker in only his second start on varsity. Hooker found senior Dorian Rodgers from 40 yards out with 11 seconds left to snap a four-game losing streak against the Warriors, 20-17.
  3. Clayton at Corinth Holders — Corinth Holders’ Jeffrey Palmer’s blocked punt that was picked up and returned by Langston Robinson for a touchdown helped the Pirates get their first win over Clayton since 2015. Corinth Holders won 20-14 after Kambron Whitaker got multiple key first downs to close the game.
  4. C.B. Aycock at Goldsboro — C.B. Aycock forced six Goldsboro turnovers, got a big performance from senior Tae Jackson and a 50/50 call to go their way to get a 21-14 win and escaped the Cougar Den 3-1.
  5. Northampton at Rosewood — Northampton’s Na’Jae Newsome went 74 yards to punch the Jaguars’ trip to the 1-A East Finals, ending Rosewood’s best season in nearly 30 years.
  6. Greene Central at South Central — The start of the Jay Wilson era looked promising as Greene Central jumped out to a 14-0 lead over South Central. But the reigning 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference champs snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
  7. Bear Grass Charter at Spring Creek — Spring Creek fell behind 21-0 against Bear Grass Charter, but the independent team never stopped believing as they scored 35 unanswered points to grab a win in their season finale.
  8. Rosewood at C.B. Aycock — The Little River Rivalry was renewed, and C.B. Aycock took the matchup, 41-26 after Rosewood turned the ball over four times.
  9. C.B. Aycock at Greene Central — C.B. Aycock capitalized off of Greene Central’s early mistakes, but the Rams fought back. But Tae Jackson closed the door for Aycock to win, 40-24 for the first win against Greene Central since 2013.
  10. Cleveland at D.H. Conley — D.H. Conley got up on Cleveland early, but the Rams took control of the game and never looked back, 35-14.
