10 Pirates sign to play college athletics
2 min readWENDELL — 10 athletes from Corinth Holders signed to play athletics at the next level on Wednesday.
Six of the 10 were from the baseball team that won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A East Championship. Pitcher and outfielder Landon Ginn, the reigning 4-A North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year, signed to play for Cliff Godwin at East Carolina University. Ginn, originally from Goldsboro and started his high school career at Eastern Wayne, said he grew up loving ECU and Greenville.
Shortstop Tanner Smith will be heading to UNC-Wilmington. Infielder Ty Cummings signed to play at Campbell. Pitcher and infielder Gabe Brewington signed to play at N.C. A&T. Outfielder Matt Kelley signed to play at UNC-Pembroke. Designated hitter Nick Tyler signed to play at William Peace.
Kalyn Rogers signed to play volleyball at Pitt Community Volleyball. Abby Rescer signed to University of South Carolina Beaufort to play soccer. Rescer will graduate in December so she will begin college in the spring.
Corinth Holders softball players Savanah Goad-Cortes and Miranda Marks both signed. Goad-Cortes at Belmont Abbey and Marks at Mars Hill.
