Aycock’s big year ends in first round
2 min readWas it the ending they wanted? No, but the ride was something special. The players, coaches and fans of C.B. Aycock’s football team’s 2019 season ended in an unceremonious 50-6 defeat to the Northside Monarchs in Jacksonville on Thursday.
The game went much like the 11-seeded Falcons’ (7-5) season did. They started out hot, but then things didn’t go their way. Despite that, head coach Steve Brooks said his players never quit — something he says is a large part of his senior’s legacy.
“That’s what we’re known for,” Brooks said. “We just got beat by a better team. Give them credit.”
Brooks and his Golden Falcons accomplishes a lot this season. They made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time under Brooks, they started 6-1 which was the best start in ten years and claimed the Wayne County Championship. But for Brooks his senior’s legacy is changing the culture, changing how he coached for the better and everything they accomplished in their four years.
“They have put their arms when I needed it most, and I tried to give them as much love in return but I don’t know if I ever can match what they have given to me,” Brooks said.
