Wayne Country Day to host “Charger Madness”

The Wayne Country Day Basketball program is opening up its doors up to the public so people can take a first look at this season’s teams this Saturday.

The Chargers’ boys varsity basketball team added new players to a team that went to the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 2-A state championship game last season. The newcomers include 6-feet-7 big man Howvante Hutcherson that played on South Central’s North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A state championship team last year, 6-foot-5 wing Jacari Outlaw who is alumnus Javon Outlaw’s younger brother and also played at arch rival Greenfield that won the NCISAA 1-A state title team last season, 6-feet-1 point guard Mike Best who played at Beddingfield last season, 6-feet-3 wing De’Andre Ervin who played at John Paul II last year and 6-feet-7 inch Julian Williams. The returnees from last year’s team includes 6-feet-4 inch Jaden Cooper and 6-feet-5 inch Linwood Grady and 6-feet Carlos Raven.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the middle school boys basketball team will play at 2 p.m. followed by the J.V. boys, girls basketball teams and then the varsity basketball team. Admission is $4 at the door.
