2 min readBoth Princeton teams continued to take care of business in their rivalry matchup with Rosewood.
The Bulldog girls’ picked up a dominant 59-28 victory while the boys’ also routed the previously undefeated Eagles, 73-55 on the road Tuesday.
In the girls contest, Princeton (6-0, 2-0) never looked back after starting up 14-4 in the first several minutes. It was a balanced effort from the road team led by backcourt duo Anna Taylor and Meredith Wooten. Both guards finished in double figures and combined for 39 points.
Eagles guard Skyler Lassiter led the way with eight points for Rosewood, who drops to 2-3 and 1-1 in conference play. Leonna Nelson added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
In a hotly contested boys game, the Bulldogs responded to a rally by the Eagles and pulled away in the final few minutes. Jahiem Taylor continued his torrid scoring stretch with 32 more points to lead Princeton. However, Rosewood stayed close thanks to their duo of Roderick Benjamin and Otis Coley.
A layup by Ethan Potts made it 17-10 after one and that lead would be pushed to 13 by halftime. The Eagles started the third quarter on a hot streak cutting the deficit to five by the mask timeout. However, Princeton senior Hunter Bailey scored six straight points and Taylor’s putback at the buzzer made it an 11-point game with a quarter left.
In the end, the Princeton (6-0, 4-0) defense started to force turnovers leading to fast break opportunities on the other end. While Rosewood managed to stay in the contest for a while, it was the Bulldogs who made one last big run to push their lead to 20 and not look back.
Benjamin (16) and Coley (18) finished in double figures for the Eagles (4-1, 4-1). Zion McPhatter had 11 and Ethan Potts had 10 to help pace the Bulldogs in this contest. Aden Taylor had five points, but made a huge impact defensively for the road team.
Princeton travels to Hobbton Thursday while Rosewood makes that same trip Friday.
