Aycock rallies come up short vs. South Central

1 min read

Despite being more competitive in both contests, C.B. Aycock couldn’t crack the code against South Central.

The Golden Falcon girls’ fell 49-44 while the boys’ lost 56-53 Monday night in Pikeville. In the first contest, Katlyn Parrish and Kaitlyn Smith kept the home team in it, but thanks to a three point barrage from A’mari Palmer, South Central led 34-22 at halftime.

Aycock would trim the deficit all the way down to four late, but was unable to get hit the key baskets down the stretch despite playing excellent defense in the final two quarters. South Central would convert on their free throws in the last several minutes to preserve their victory.

In the boys game, the Golden Falcons were better than their 35-point season opening loss to this same South Central team. Ashton Peronzini was the go to marksman for the home team and kept their chances of an upset alive. However, Omar Harris came to play as well en route to 21 points, all in the first three quarters.

Jaidyne Dunn and Kris Reid were hitting outside shots especially in the second half, but every Golden Falcons basket was answered by Moses Tufts for South Central. His three with two minutes left in the fourth put South Central up eight and Aycock wouldn’t get closer than four the rest of the way.

Aycock hosts Southern Wayne Tuesday as they look to remain in the playoff hunt.
