WJG SPORTS FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Week 8): Greene Central’s Jaden Tyson

2 min read

SNOW HILL — Greene Central has been dealing with the injury bug all year long, which created an opportunity for someone to step up.

“His speed and athleticism really popped and flashed out,” Greene Central head coach Jay Wilson said. “We knew that eventually this year that he would wind up getting some time on varsity, but we didn’t know it was going to be this early.”

Greene Central sophomore running back Jaden Tyson has burst on the scene for the Rams. In his first two starts on varsity, Tyson carried the ball 32 times for 247 yards and five touchdowns.

“I was kind of nervous, but once I got in I was already focused,” Tyson said.

Tyson is a bit undersized for a running back at 5-feet-6-inches and 157 pounds, but his lack of size may be a big help for him.

“You look at him and he’s running behind big Greg (Daniels) and the next thing you know, he’s popping out,” Wilson said. “As a linebacker, that’s a hard thing. First you got to take on a block then you’re looking lower than you’re normally looking and then next thing you know he’s gone. Once he gets North and South, he’s very, very quick.”

Wilson said that running back coach Anthony Dupree has taken Tyson under his wing. Tyson said there’s one thing that he’s learned for sure.

“Follow my blocks and hit the ground as hard as I can,” Tyson said.
