Princeton dominates en route to fourth round

PRINCETON — The Princeton varsity volleyball team punched their ticket to the fourth round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs with a straight set victory over Vance Charter.

The Bulldogs (25-3) won on Thursday night, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19. Princeton dominated for most of the night as they had seven rallies of five points or more throughout the match.

“I’m elated,” Princeton head coach Paige Renfrow said. “I’m so proud of the girls. This is the most intense I have seen our team play.”

The Bulldogs are one win away from the East Region final, which is the furthest the Bulldogs have been since 2015 when they lost in the state championship game. Renfrow said this Bulldogs team’s defense is better than years past.

“The difference is our solid defense and our bet play is faster,” Renfrow said. “I’ve always told my teams from day one when I started coaching, ‘yeah you got some good hitters, but you’re never going to be shown off if you don’t have good defense to get it to the front.’ I have always thrived on defense and this team has solid defensive coverage. Madison (Massey) is all over the place, Meredith (Wooten) was on fire tonight at being everywhere we needed her and my middle back was awesome.”

Princeton will travel to Falls Lake Academy (24-3)  on Saturday at 2 p.m. The two teams have not played each other and the only common opponents are Oxford Preparatory and Vance Charter. Falls Lake are also the defending state champions.
