Dobbins to host JOCO High School Combine

Mike Dobbins has helped a lot of players play college basketball, and now he wants to help more Johnston County youth get there.
While coaching the Carolina Chaos, Garner Flames and now Team Loaded on the adidas Gauntlet, Dobbins has won national championships and helped dozens of players get to the next level. Now Dobbins, who went to Smithfield-Selma High and graduated from Johnston Community College, wants to build a basketball community in Johnston County — a place known more for its softball and baseball than basketball.
“I want players to have other players from around the county to push each other to get better,” Dobbins said in a phone interview. “I was just thinking that I have helped so many kids from other counties get a scholarship, so now it’s time to help my hometown.”
Dobbins will hold his first event this Saturday at SSS with the inaugural JOCO High School Combine. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Registration Fee is $65 and players must be registered by Thursday. The Combine is open to only Johnston County high school players and will feature skillwork, teaching of basketball concepts and open run.
