WJG SPORTS FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: North Johnston’s Camden Aycock
2 min readNorth Johnston senior quarterback Camden Aycock had one of his best games of the season in Week 9. Aycock threw for 183 yards, three touchdowns while running for 70 yards and a touchdown in a 38-26 win over Farmville Central.
“(Offensive coordinator Jeremiah) Holland called a really good game against Farmville Central,” Aycock said. “The whole team played good. The offensive line blocked well, the run game started working, had some open balls thrown to Carsse (Lucas) and had one long one thrown to Jeremiah (Wallace). It felt pretty good to get a win at home for the first time in like two years.”
Aycock was one of the best returners from the Panthers’ 2018 team after throwing for 1000 yards and rushing for 500 more. But after head coach Michael Barnett took over, he changed the entire offense.
“That’s one of the things we talked about coming in, he spent three years in a different offense,” Barnett said. “This year he’s worked hard and we’re starting to see it click and make those reads.”
Aycock had some issues earlier in the season that caused him to miss three games, but he accepted his punishment and it taught him a valuable lesson.
“That was pretty tough of a learning experience for me,” Aycock said. “It was just a miscommunication between me and the coaches. Learning experience wise, it was just learning to control what you can control.”
The senior said his focus now is trying to play football at the next level. Aycock said he doesn’t mind switching positions, he just wants a chance to play.
