The Southern Wayne girls basketball team got off to a rough start, but has found their groove recently.

On their senior day, the Saints extended their winning streak to four games with a 42-32 win over Eastern Wayne Wednesday. Seniors Ty’lisha Maye and Aleesha Boyette were honored before the contest began.

Boyette began the game with a three and Maye brought intensity on both ends of the floor. For the Warriors, Na’Tyjaih Jones and and Nya Ward kept their team in it during the first half.

Southern Wayne’s defense proved to be the difference in this contest with Jamaiya Bass playing a big role for the Saints. The sophomore forward had 12 points while Maye led all scorers with 17. Meanwhile, the Warriors were led by Jones who had 15.

Southern Wayne plays D.H. Conley in a pivotal conference game Friday while Eastern Wayne hosts Ayden-Grifton.
