Chargers split season opener at Cape Fear Christian
1 min readWayne Country Day basketball got their season started as they split with Cape Fear Christian Tuesday in Erwin.
The Chargers girls’ team is off and running after a dominant 66-23 victory over the Eagles. Sophomore guard Ja’Kea Brunson led the way with 29 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Chargers (1-0), Kimora Cox added 19, and Carleigh Greiman chipped in with 14. Gracie Byrd had 13 points to pace the Eagles (1-1).
Meanwhile, the boys’ squad fell in their opener, 68-48 despite 15 points from Columbia signee Jaden Cooper. Cinque Lemon sparked the Cape Fear Christian offense with 26 points to lead all scorers while Amari Pearson and Caden Bell added 11 and 10 respectively. Mike Best Jr. finished with 11 points and Jordan Cooper had nine for the Chargers.
Wayne Country Day is back in action December 1st at Raleigh Friendship Christian.
