WJG SPORTS ALL-WAGREENE COUNTY BASKETBALL TEAMS

3 min read

It was another good year of Wayne County boys hoops as four teams from the public schools made the playoffs and Wayne Country Day made it to the NCISAA 2-A State Championship game. It was a different story for girls basketball as only one piblic school team — Southern Wayne — fielded a winning record but the Saints and C.B. Aycock did make the playoffs. Wayne Country Day girls made the Final Four once again and finish as the best team in Wayne/Greene County otherwise known as “WaGreene.” In Greene County, the Lady Rams ended a long losing streak to finish 5-19. The boys basketball team made it back to the playoffs but ended their three-year streak of making it to the East Regional Finals. Wayne Country Day and Goldsboro both had 20 win seasons, but with Goldsboro winning the head to head — the Cougars will finish as the top team in the WAGREENE area. Here are the boys and girls who had the 15 best seasons in the area. Selections were based on the eye test, coaches’ nominations, team success and stats on MaxPreps.
