Rosewood 55, Union 0

GOLDSBORO — The Rosewood varsity football team got up early on Union and never looked back in Thursday’s senior night football game, winning 55-0.

It was the Eagles’ eighth straight victory since losing their season opener to C.B. Aycock. During the streak, Rosewood has cores at least 40 points in every game, for an average of 55.6 points per game and have allowed just 82 points.

Cleveland 54, Clayton 9 — WJG Sports Game of the Week

CLAYTON — In the battle for the “C” and first place in the 3-A Greater Neuse River title, Cleveland dropped the hammer using Skyler Locklear’s five passing touchdowns on Friday night. 

The Comets’ (4-5, 2-1 GNRC) game plan was to try to contain Omarion Hampton, who came into the game with 1400 all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns. While Clayton loaded the box, sophomore signal caller Locklear made them pay going 11-14 with 200 passing yards and five passing touchdowns.

“The word out there was they thought we were one-dimensional and all we had was Omarion,” Cleveland head coach Scott Riley said. “We’re a little more than one-dimensional.”

Hampton still finished with 19 carries for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Isaiah Sawyer also had three catches, 101 yards and three touchdowns with two carries for 37 rushing yards. Amir Johnson has three carries for 53 yards and a touchdown as well.

The Rams (8-1, 3-0 GNRC) will travel to West Johnston next Friday.

South Johnston 56, Smithfield-Selma 0

South Johnston will play East Wake next week after its second straight win to get to 4-5 with a 2-1 GNRC worksheet. Smithfield-Selma falls to 1-8 and 0-3 in the GNRC. SSS will host Clayton on Friday.

Princeton 57, North Duplin 0

PRINCETON — The Bulldogs remain undefeated (8-0, 3-0 CC) and will face Lakewood next Friday on the road.

Goldsboro 28, James Kenan 20

GOLDSBORO — Goldsboro senior running back JB Rhodes IV shined on senior night against James Kenan as he led the Cougars to a 28-20 win.

The running back touched the ball 16 times for 161 yards for two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Jamin Jacobs returned from a broken collarbone suffered the week of the season opener. Jacobs went 7-13 for 130 yards and two touchdowns in his return. Goldsboro head coach Tim Ray also deployed a two quarterback system that allowed Deontay Hooker to go 2-4 with 30 yards and a touchdown.

Dorian Rodgers and Brian Buckom made big impacts on defense with 10 tackles and two sacks. Ty’kwuan Joyner also had 8 tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles.

The Cougars (4-5, 1-2 ECC) will travel to Midway next week.

East Wake 21, West Johnston 14

BENSON — West Johnston list on a last second touchdown pass on Friday at home. The Wildcats (2-7, 1-2 GNRC) will host Cleveland next Friday.

North Pitt 28, North Johnston 7

BETHEL — North Johnston (2-7, 1-2 EPC) lost to North Pitt 28-7 and will host SouthWest Edgecombe next Friday.

Wakefield 34, Corinth Holders 20

RALEIGH — Corinth Holders (4-5, 0-3 NAC) dropped its fifth straight game to Wakefield, 34-20. Corinth Holders will welcome in Knightdale next Friday.

J.H. Rose 48, Eastern Wayne 6

GREENVILLE — Eastern Wayne (1-8, 1-3 3-A/4-A ECC) lost 48-6 to J.H. Rose and will host D.H. Conley.

D.H. Conley 51, C.B. Aycock 25

GREENVILLE — C.B. Aycock (6-4, 2-3 3-A/4-A ECC) couldn’t maintain its first quarter lead and lost 51-25 to D.H. Conley and will have a bye week next week.

West Craven 36, Greene Central 0

SNOW HILL — Greene Central (4-5, 1-3 2-A ECC) was blanked against West Craven 36-0 and the Rams will host Ayden-Griffin next Friday.

North Moore 40, Spring Creek 0

ROBBINS — Spring Creek (1-9) went on the road and lost to North Moore 40-0 and will host Bear Grass Charter next Friday In its season finale.
