WCDS knocks off defending champs
2 min readGOLDSBORO — The Wayne Country Day varsity boys soccer team made a statement on Monday at home by knocking off the defending 2-A state champion Fayetteville Academy, 4-0, behind Christian Garloch’s hat trick.
The Chargers have now won 29 of their last 30 games, including their 11-0 start to this season. WCDS beat them on the road 2-0 earlier on August 26. Head coach Steve Ellis said the first matchup helped them in Monday’s game, because they knew how to counter what they did.
“We were fantastic from start to finish,” Ellis said. “We just dominated from start to finish. This was our best team performance this season.”
Garloch’s goals brought him up to seven on the year. Nehemiya Shaw also added a goal and an assist. Shaw now has eight goals and six assists this season. Michael Geer also added two assists in the win. Andrew Sherman also had an assist. Thomas Sumner had two saves in goal.
The Chargers have three more games left in the regular season, including a Friday matchup against Greenfield.
“This was a good test for us, and we passed with flying colors,” Ellis said.
