WJG SPORTS FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rosewood’s Will Harris

2 min read

It’s hard to play perfect football, but over the last few weeks, Rosewood quarterback Will Harris has nearly done it.

“It’s awesome,” Harris said. “I love my offensive linemen and they love me. We’re keeping it going.”

Harris completed 12 out of 13 passes in week three and four for 233 yards and five touchdowns. In those two games, Rosewood outscored the opponents 113-7.

“He’s been playing well,” head coach Robert Britt said. “A second-year starter as a junior. He understands the offense completely. It’s always gratifying to see a young man that’s getting better and able to put it on the field.”

Unlike most QBs, Harris also has to put in work on the defensive side. Harris is a playmaker at safety and Britt says that sometimes he’s too valuable to sit.

“He’s a gamer,” Britt said. “We try the best we can to keep him off the field on defense, but because he is such a good player and he makes plays — when we feel like we need him, we put him out there and he’s ready to go. He probably would want to play more defense if we allowed him to.”

It’s been quite the calendar year for Harris. In December, he was one play from the 1-A state title game. In May, he was on the mound pitching for a state title. Now, Harris has lead Rosewood to a 4-1 start. Harris said he’s glad to have guys like Avante George, Davien Thompson, Dhimany Fenty and Zack Brogden to feed.

“That’s the name of our game,” Harris said. “Spreading the ball around to everybody and scoring touchdowns.”
