ROSEWOOD — The Neuse Charter varsity volleyball team continued its winning ways with a straight set victory over 1-A Carolina Conference for Rosewood.
The Cougars (7-0, 3-0 CC) won 25-19, 25-21, 25-15. The Cougars and the Eagles (5-4, 2-1 CC) have traded places being third and fourth in the conference the last three seasons, but with the Cougars 3-2 win over Lakewood on Tuesday they believe they can challenge for the conference championship. Head coach Gail Browning said they need to focus on the little things to keep the success up.
“Keep conditioning, stay mentally focused and make sure our fundamentals are perfect so that we can excel to the next level and try some new things,” Browning said. “I’m trying to get them to not look at our record and concentrate on forward, rather than what they’ve done.”
Rosewood has lost three of the last four games, but first-year head coach Wade Johnson believes as the season goes and the team continues to play together that they will get better.
“We lost, but there was a lot of good volleyball played tonight,” Wade Johnson said. “When we get that chemistry and start geling as one — we’re going to upset someone.”
The Eagles will play North Lenoir Monday at home. Neuse Charter will host Union on Tuesday.
