During the Smithfield-Selma Building Blocks Episode, head coach Mike Parrish decides who will go out on kickoff.
Head coach Mike Parrish has poured a lot of himself into rebuilding the Smithfield-Selma football team that is just 7-92 since 2010, and others have taken notice.
With the help of Zaxby’s and SRAC, Parrish and the Spartans will put on the inaugural Muddy Water Classic on Wednesday — one of the largest football jamborees in the state with 17 teams including four other area teams: North Johnston, Goldsboro, Southern Wayne and Spring Creek.
“We’re serious about making football relevant in the Smithfield-Selma community,” Parrish said. “I’m trying to get ya to take that next step, and in order to take that next step you have to know what it looks like.”
The 12 other schools competing are Southern Nash, Enloe, North Lenoir, Hobbton, North Pitt, Green Hope, Leesville Road, Fuquay Varina, Southeast Guilford, Holly Springs, Cape Fear and Panther Creek. Parrish hopes by bringing in some of the elite teams in the state that it will show his guys, how to win.
“When you see these guys compete, do you compete like that? Do you work as hard as they work and does it mean as much to you as it does to them?” Parrish said. “It’s one thing to say that in practice, but now that you see them in person, do you feel like you’re on par with them? If not, what are you going to do to get there?”
Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and admission is $5. Schedule for each team is pictured below.
