Cleveland at Clayton — WJG Sports Game Of The Week

Kai: “High stakes as the two teams in Clayton that claim to be the “Big C” will battle it out for what is unofficially the Greater Neuse River Conference Championship Game. It’s a rivalry game that has a little extra spice as Clayton senior running back Jalen Chadwick will face off against his old team, hoping to prove it was the right decision. On the other side, Omarion “Young Terminator” Hampton will hope to continue his hot streak against a uber athletic defense that held South Johnston to two yards rushing two weeks ago and shut out East Wake last week. The Comets will come out juiced but the talent of Cleveland will take over in the second half, 49-36 Cleveland.

Laieke: Clayton is going to challenge Cleveland, but the Rams difference maker Omarion Hampton will take over. I think the Rams will pull away in the second half with some timely defense. 42-26 Cleveland

Washington at South Lenoir — Strika’s Game Of The Week

Kai: “Washington is a state contender and South Lenoir, whole much improved from last season, have lost four straight. I predict running clock by third quarter, 48-0 W.”

Laieke: “Strika’s GOTW features a Washington squad on their march to potentially win the Eastern Carolina 2-A conference. The Pam Pack should take care of business against a struggling South Lenoir team. Jeremy Joyner likes to balance the pass and run and will always have his kids play with toughness and effort. Jon Blank’s Pam Pack squad has a lot of athletes and they like to run the football with their three-headed monster: Antwone Godley, Jaden Hambric, and Terry Moore. I think it’s a tough ask for the Blue Devils and Washington will set up the matchup on November 1st between them and West Craven for the conference championship. 46-6 W.”

Greene Central vs. West Craven

Kai: “Greene Central’s offense cannot seem to find consistency. It seemed to be taking a step in the right direction two weeks ago when it up put up 59 against South Lenoir, but a doughnut on the scoreboard against Kinston seems to show it was more about the defense they were facing than their offense. West Craven is no offensive juggernaut but average 43.8 points per game in wins and 12 points in wins. If Greene Central wants to win, the defense will need to be dominate. It’s possible, but I don’t think it will happen, 26-12 WC.”

Laieke: “Greene Central is very capable of winning against West Craven, but I think the Eagles defense wins out in this game.” 18-10 WC

C.B. Aycock at D.H. Conley

Kai: “C.B. Aycock has shown a lot of heart all season and last week in defeat against J.H. Rose, but heart may not be enough against D.H. Conley who has won their last five. With Clay Matthews being out, the Falcons would have to play perfect football. I think the Falcons will fight and come up just short as the fire power of the Vikings overwhelms them, 34-30 DHC.”

Laieke: “Aycock has a few injuries from last weeks game. A lot of things are up in the air in this big matchup against Conley. In the end, arguably the hottest team in my coverage areas will find a way in a tight ball game.” 32-27 DHC

Bethel Christian vs. Northeast-Hobgood

Kai: “Bethel has everyone back and are ready to roll. The game being home at home, plus the fact Bethel has an old debt to settle from last year should help them to a win. 42-36 BCA.”

Laieke: “Bethel is back at full strength for their semifinal matchup against Northeast-Hobgood. The winner of this game will play for a state championship next week.” 48-39 BCA

South Central at New Bern

Kai: “New Bern has been the big surprise of the year. Torrey Nowell has changed the plight of this program in year one. South Central will fight hard as they need this game to stay in the conference title chase, but the fire power of the Bears will be too much to handle. 48-21 NB in a shootout!”

Laieke: “This will be tight throughout, but New Bern should still be steaming after that huge loss to Conley a few weeks ago.” 45-32 NB

Eastern Wayne at J.H. Rose

Kai: “Desmond Vaughn is back and making plays along with JJ Murray, but J.H. Rose is the best 3-5 team in the state and needs this win to make the playoffs and they will get it, 42-16 JHR.”

Laieke: “The best three-win team in North Carolina  will continue the good times against Wayne County opponents.” 38-8 JHR

North Lenoir at Ayden-Grifton

Kai: “I’ve put a lot of stock in Ayden-Grifton all season and have claimed that maybe North Lenoir’s success has been competition based. But after last week’s momentous win over West Craven, maybe the Hawks are for real? If not, I still think they have been a better team than Ayden-Grifton the last four weeks. 24-21 NL.”

Laieke: “This North Lenoir squad has proven everyone wrong. No one can say they didn’t play anyone after a big win over West Craven. With that same game plan and defensive effort, they’ll have the advantage against an Ayden-Grifton team in a must-win situation.” 22-17 NL

Northside vs South Creek

Kai: “Two teams who can really score will faceoff and I think South Creek’s Demorian Smith will be the difference. 48-40 SC”

Laieke: “This could arguably be the most competitive game in my coverage areas. In the end, it’ll be too much Demorian Smith for the Panthers in a tight game.” 42-41 SC

John Paul II at Halifax

Kai: “Eli Davis. Eli Davis. Eli Davis. Eli Davis. The senior runner for Halifax Academy will be the difference. 60-18 H.”

Laieke: “John Paul II had a scheduling conflict this week and instead of playing in Raleigh, they’re playing at Halifax Academy in the NCISAA Div. 2 playoffs. This Halifax squad is the real deal however.” 44-12 H

Arendell Parrott at Rocky Mount Academy

Kai: “Arandell Parrott has Trey McLawhorn…Rocky Mount Academy does not, 48-12 APA.”

Laieke: “Patriots will finish with an undefeated conference schedule. Then, it’s onto the playoffs which begin next week.” 33-6 APA

North Johnston at North Pitt

Kai: “I got faith in the Panthers to win for the third time this season. The Panthers need this one and I think they will attack it like that, 32–28 NJ.”

Laieke: “Both of these teams need this game in the worst way. In the end, I’ll take coach Barnett and the Panthers if they’re defense can tighten up against the option.” 24-20 NJ

Farmville Central vs Southwest Edgecombe

Kai: “SouthWest Edgecombe is shaping our to be the favorite for the 2-A state title while Farmville Central is in the midst of a winless season, 44-0 SWE.”

Laieke: “The Jaguars will have a great effort on homecoming, but these Cougars are capable of a deep playoff run.” 50-0 SWE

Spring Creek at North Moore

Kai: “Spring Creek has battled all year and I think they may be rewarded with a victory, 24-23 SC.”

Laieke: “Kai and I sincerely hope Spring Creek finds a way in this game.” 17-16 SC

Princeton vs North Duplin

Kai: “Princeton is waiting for November 8th. North Duplin is no match for the Bulldogs on homecoming, 58-19 P.”

Laieke: “Princeton should be able to run the ball at will once again.” 51-13 P

South Johnston at Smithfield-Selma

Kai: “South Johnston pulled away late from West Johnston, who beat Smithfield-Selma two weeks ago. 42-12 SJ.”

Laieke: “South Johnston has a chance to sneak into the playoffs, so they need wins right now.” 36-17 SJ

Corinth Holders at Wakefield

Kai: “Corinth Holders is dealing with lots of injuries and on the road it may show, 34-18 W.”

Laieke: “The gauntlet that is the Northern 4-A will continue to cause struggles for the Pirates.” 38-16 W

West Johnston vs East Wake

Kai: “West Johnston is playing good football and have a good opportunity against winless East Wake, 35-12 WJ.”

Laieke: “West Johnston will refocus and get back on track after a tough loss last week.” 41-13 WJ

Rosewood picked up a 55-0 win over Union on Thursday.

Kai: 56-8 R

Laieke: 52-6 R
