Newell’s goal secures undefeated regular season

GOLDSBORO — A late goal on a penalty kick by Wayne Country Day varsity soccer senior Marquise Newell secured the team’s 14-0 regular season and conference championship as they beat Greenfield 1-0 on Thursday evening’s senior night.

Newell said the goal was the first time he ever got one against arch rival Greenfield in his entire varsity career. The Chargers are 14-0 and anticipate getting the top seed in the NCISAA 2-A state playoffs. WCDS’ soccer team has not won the state title since 2015.
