Kinston pulls away from Greene Central in rivalry matchup

1 min read

Greene Central stayed close in the early stages, but Kinston proved to be too much.

The Rams went cold after the first quarter of their 82-46 loss to the Vikings Wednesday in Snow Hill. Greene Central began hot from three thanks to the play of Ray Moncrieft and Jamari Coppage. However, they didn’t have answers for Jeremy Dixon early.

Despite playing a good first quarter, the Rams trailed 19-16 after eight minutes of play. Kinston made their move in the first few minutes of the second quarter with Dontrez Styles getting going. His alley oop slam dunk began the period with authority as the Vikings built their advantage to 15 at halftime.

Dontavious Pettaway got on the board with a dunk early in the third quarter, but the Rams offense sputtered in the second half. Dixon continued his scoring barrage en route to a game-high 28 points. Styles added 19 for the Vikings who are looking to make a playoff push after dropping three conference games early in the season without the UNC signee.

Kinston would outscore the Rams 23-5 in the fourth quarter to extend to the final margin of victory. Moncreift led the way with 14 points for the Rams, who hosts South Lenoir Friday.
